Book Club Benefits

Published by Jessica Clark

Reading is a decadent activity for me. There is always some “work” to be done which I prioritize over sitting still to read a book. So, when my colleagues started a book club, I saw an opportunity to help me slow down, change my priorities, and be accountable for regular reading.

We’ve read a wide array of books so far, non-fiction and fiction, each of us sharing what interests us in the moment and then agreeing on which book is next (see book list below). We’ve even leveraged our firm’s subscription to MasterClass at Work to “read” and discuss the series called Listening. There is depth to our conversations, and we are flexible if anyone needs more time to finish the book.

Book clubbing with my colleagues has indeed changed my mindset about reading. I have integrated nuggets of wisdom from each of the books we’ve read, and I apply them regularly. Our book club did what I needed it to do: helped me slow down and see the value of reading!
