Focusing on Our Strengths

Published by Michelle Lahmon

At Highlands, we have a passion for learning. In fact, it’s one of the top five values we share as a firm. Each of us has a yearly training stipend to grow in our chosen areas, but to kick off 2021 we came together as a team to learn about our strengths. We each took the CliftonStrengths Talent Assessment (also known as StrengthsFinder), answering 177 questions to determine our top five strengths. A few of our clients have benefited from this exercise, and now we can see why!

We gathered virtually for a facilitated session that emphasized the value of strengths – both individually and as a team. While the reports were interesting alone, the session transformed them into thought provoking, actionable outcomes. One of the most interesting takeaways? Research shows that building upon innate talents is a better use of time than tackling weaknesses. The session also shed a positive light on our team’s diverse skills and styles. Differences make us stronger!

It was great to take time to self-reflect. We look forward to learning about other team productivity tools in the future.
