The Value of My Summer Internship

Published by Simon Woldai

If you were to ask a college student, “what do you aspire to be?” or “what career path do you want to pursue?” many (including myself) would say “I don’t know yet” or “I am still figuring it out.” I was fortunate to have had an amazing eight-week summer internship with Highlands Consulting.

Being a Finance major, there are many different avenues that I can take, all of which seem appealing. Although my internship was remote due to the COVID-19 pandemic, I was able to learn valuable skills both personally and professionally, and to understand what consulting is like. I assisted on a software project for the California Department of Public Health (CDPH). And I helped on a financial system project for the California Department of Social Services (CDSS). I also had the pleasure of speaking with a variety of consultants, who taught me about many of the services that Highlands provides.

My experience at Highlands taught me the essentials of consulting.  Learning from great people was what made my internship that much better.
